Dr Rouhani in a meeting with the Armenian President:
Deepening ties with neighbours, esp. Armenia, Iran’s top foreign policy priority
Stressing more cooperation among private sectors
Presidents of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Armenia had a bilateral meeting and emphasised the importance of developing relations between Tehran and Yerevan in different political, economic and cultural fields.
Speaking in a meeting with the President of Armenia late on Monday in Yerevan, President Hassan Rouhani said, “Further development of relations with neighbouring countries, including Armenia, is a top foreign policy principle for the Islamic Republic of Iran”.
On cultural and historical common points between the two countries and peoples, the President said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran and Armenia have ample potentials in different fields, including energy, transit and transportation, tourism, and industry, which can be used to the benefit of both nations’ interests”.
Stressing the capabilities of the private sectors of the two countries, Dr Rouhani said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to provide Armenia with its experience in different technical and engineering fields, dam construction and energy”.
He also went on to describe cooperation under Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) very important, saying, “Iran’s participation in Eurasian Union’s economic relations can be a very good opportunity for deepening bilateral economic relations, as well as at the regional level”.
The President emphasised more relations and cooperation between the two countries’ free economic zones, including Aras and Meghri.
At the same meeting, President Armen Sarkissian of Armenia stressed that his country considers cementing ties with Iran very important and said, “Armenia is seeking to develop relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran in different fields, including economy, industry, energy and environment”.
He said, “The Eurasian region can extend its activities, and in this regard, we are ready to develop relations Tehran”.
