Iraq optimistic about promoting electricity industry in cooperation with Iran
Iraqi Minister of Electricity Louay Al-Khateeb on Saturday described prospects of Iran-Iraq cooperation in the field of electricity as diverse.
'We are optimistic about developing electricity industry in cooperation with Islamic Republic of Iran,' he said.
The Iraqi energy minister made the remarks after a meeting with the Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian late on Saturday.
Al-Khateeb who is accompanying Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdel-Mahdi during his two-day visit to Iran further pointed out that joint committee of the two ministries for operationalizing previous agreements for updating Iraqi electricity system.
As to export of gas and electricity from Iran, he said, “We will continue imports from Iran until Iraq’ gas fields and power plants achieve self-sufficiency.”
Energy imports from Iran are temporary and will last almost two or three years, he pointed out.
Iraqi prime minister arrived in Tehran on Saturday at the head of a high-ranking political and economic delegation.
