US after keeping tension in West Asia: Iran official

irna , 14 Mar 2019 - 15:07

Spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said here on Thursday that the US artificial and unreal allegations are made in a bid to keep West Asia region as a stressful environment with full of complicated crises that are seemingly insolvable.

Bahram Qasemi made the remarks in response to the worthless allegations made by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at the annual energy event, CERAWEEK, in Houston about Iran-Iraq relations.

Describing such allegations as worthless and baseless, Qasemi said the relations between the two neighboring countries of Iran and Iraq are based on the two nations’ demands as well as based on the mutual respect, confidence and interests.

Despite the US policies on interference, neither Iran nor Iraq are after imposing will or demand on the other side, the spokesman said.

Iran and Iraq have been neighbors for hundreds of years and will remain so for the next hundreds of years, he said, adding the two sides’ leaders have determined to stand by each other in difficult conditions.

If such determination annoys the US officials, they are not allowed anyhow to talk about Tehran-Baghdad ties through undiplomatic and impolite words, Qasemi said.

He noted that uttering such words have been cause by the US bad habit [of interfering in other countries’ relations] under the influence of the Zionist lobby which has made its all-out efforts to do and say whatever is against Iran.

Instead of launching smear campaign against Iran, they would be better to make effort to halt war in the Middle East region, uproot Takfiri terrorism and help bring peace and stability to the West Asia region, he said.

Meanwhile, they are trying to keep West Asia as a stressful environment with full of complicated crises in order to increase income from exporting weapons to the region, the move which has been causing death to thousands of innocent people, Qasemi concluded.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani paid a three-day visit to Iraq on March 11-13. During the visit, the two sides signed several agreements on cooperation that officials in the two countries stressed the importance of implementation of those agreements as soon as possible.
